This Double Fudge Chocolate Trifle is one of my favorite desserts. It is so easy, but so delicious! There are so many variations that can change up the flavor for any season or event!
First, bake or purchase some gluten free brownies. I use Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownie Mix. The mix tastes delicious and is available at almost every grocery store!
Next, it’s time to make homemade whipped cream. Add 12 oz. of heavy whipping cream to a bowl. Beat with a mixer until peaks begin to form. At this time, add 1 tsp. of almond flavoring and 2-3 tbsp. of powdered sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to over beat, as the cream will begin to turn into butter.
Hint: If you freeze a metal bowl for about 10 minutes before you add the cream, the finished whipped cream will turn out better!
Next, it’s time to make the homemade chocolate pudding. Boxed pudding can definitely be used to save time, but it does not taste as delicious as this homemade pudding!
In a microwave safe bowl, whisk together 1/2 C. white sugar, 1/3 C. cocoa powder, and 3 tbsp. cornstarch. Then whisk in 2 C. of milk. You will want to pour the milk in a little at a time the prevent lumps in the pudding. Place in the microwave, and cook for 3 minutes. Stir, then cook at 1 minute intervals for 2 to 4 minutes or until shiny and thick. Add 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract. Put a piece of plastic wrap directly on top of the pudding when finished to prevent a film from forming on the pudding. Chill in the refrigerator.
Before assembling the trifle, make sure the brownies and pudding are completely cooled. Otherwise, they will melt the whipped cream!
In a clear trifle bowl, layer in this order: crumbled brownies, pudding, whipped cream, repeat.
To add a twist to this dessert you can add a layer of heath bars, almonds, mini chocolate chips, or fresh strawberries. The possibilities are endless!
